"Help, How Do I Choose the Right One" Said the Car Stereo Customer at the Electronics Store
The other day, I was at a large electronics store and a young man, I'd say middle 20s was checking out all the car stereos with his friend and a gal, who I assume was his current girlfriend. He looked completely perplexed indeed, and he said something like; "Holycrap, OMG, WTH," and I immediately turned around and he was looking at all the car stereo choices available. An electronics store employee came over and then started explaining all the options, accessories, combinations, speakers, features, and so forth. I got dizzy just listening, seriously.
You'd think that choosing a stereo would be simple, but it's as difficult as choosing a smart phone or lap top these days. Some say choosing the stereo is harder than choosing a car, since there are so many options these days. Indeed, there is a lot of truth to that. Below are some tips on purchasing a car stereo;
1. You must consider your budget and how much you are willing to spend; you need to decide if you want to buy an extended warranty, which also adds to the cost. Also, you must decide if you're going to install it yourself, or have it installed. If you're going to pay someone to install it, often the cost of installation can be nearly the price of the stereo itself in some cases, especially if you are buying a lower end stereo.
2. Next, you have to decide if you want a factory stereo which matches the brand of your automobile, or if you are willing to buy and aftermarket auto stereo, many of which are much better, or are exactly comparable, without the brand name cost.
3. Ask yourself do you wish your car stereo to interface with your iPod? Do you wish your car stereo to also have satellite radio? Do you wish to have a CD changer in the trunk of your car which works in conjunction with your car stereo? How loud do you wish to play your car stereo - you may need an extra battery to handle the load. Do you wish to have a remote control, so you can be sitting in the park and press buttons controlling the stereo? There are almost unlimited options available today. All of these things can add costs, but you need to ask yourself up front.
4. Now, you need to go in and price the ads and take a look at what's available currently. It makes sense to go to Best Buy, and several local aftermarket auto accessories stereo shops, and to check online, perhaps you want to get the latest version, order it online and then take it in to have it installed.
5. If you spend a lot of money on a car stereo you also need to consider that when you sell the car you may wish to take it out and replace it with a lesser version. Of course if you end up cutting holes in the car to put in extra speakers and such, your car may be worth less if you leave it with holes upon selling it. After all, not everyone will have your same taste in music, or the need for such a fancy stereo system.
6. Many of the kids these days spend more money on their stereo systems than they do on the actual car, so obviously when they go to sell their car they are really selling their stereo system with the car attached. Perhaps you should consider all this before you buy a car stereo.
Indeed, I hope all this information assists you in choosing the best auto stereo system for your car. Please think on it.
